AUGUST 2010 NEWSLETTER
The birds entered in the fourth race from The Twins were released at 7.30 am, along with 3658 SAHPA birds. At the release point there was a light northerly wind with the birds breaking into 4 batches. On the way home there were strong northerly winds that turned westerly late morning. Arrival times were all over the place in a very fast race.
The race was won by Phil Gorman, with a bird that had recently returned from the Carrieton race, second was Toowoomba Syndicate (Sam Nixon and partners) with Muirhead & Fuller third. Birds that came back from the Carrieton race in the last few weeks took 3 of the top 10 places. Congratulations to the winner and all of the other prize winners.
Our fifth and final race is from Marla (approx 947 kms) on 28th August.
Muirhead & Fuller have a stranglehold on the Aggregate Points but the Bird of the Year will be decided by the Marla race with seven birds still in the running. The Twins race opened the door for the birds currently running third to seventh.
Registrations and deposits for the 2011 season are being taken. The entry fee is $1,100 with the deposit being $300. Please forward your completed registration form and deposit to the Treasurer as soon as possible.
On a sad note, Dan Evans one of our members and winner of Lyndhurst, the Aggregate Points and Bird of the Year in the club’s first season recently passed away after a long illness. We extend our condolences to his wife Caryll and family.
