JULY 2009 NEWSLETTER
The club entered 252 birds in the race from Parachilna, which were released at 8.00am along with 3978 SAHPA birds into a light south-to-south west headwind. The first bird took 6 hours 21 minutes 55 seconds to reach the loft with the winning velocity around 1030 mpm. This was around the time expected by the majority of those present.
The race was won by the Mandurah City syndicate (Colin Higgins and partners) from the Country Class syndicate (Darrell Curnick and partners) with the Five Up syndicate (Paul Brown and partners) third. The winner finished 10th in the Carrieton race. Congratulations to the winner and the prizewinners. It took almost 37 minutes to fill the 30 prizes and at no stage during the afternoon were birds arriving in sufficient numbers to end up with a good overall result. Only 9 of the first 30 birds from Carrieton made it home on the day. This was the club’s worst race since the Parachilna race in the 2004 season.
The early leaders in both the Aggregate Points and Bird of the Year are Mandurah City followed by Wagga 4 and Belkena. Full details are on the website.
The next race is from Lyndhurst (Approx 485 kms) on 1st August.
Registrations and deposits for the 2010 season are being taken. The entry fee is $1,100 with the deposit being $300. A reminder that to be assured of a spot for the 2010 season current members have until 31st July to lodge their deposit. After that date members are accepted on a first in basis.
