JUNE 2010 NEWSLETTER
In the first race from Carrieton 325 birds were entered and these were released at 9.00am Sunday along with 3017 SAHPA birds. A very windy Saturday with showers saw a hold over. Sunday was a cloudy day with a few showers but the wind had dropped. The birds were released into an 8-12 knot south south west wind which was expected to increase to 20 knots on the journey home. Unfortunately, the wind got up much stronger than this late in the morning.
Muirhead & Fuller were the winners of the race from Matthew Moore with Gordon Bradfield third. The winning velocity was 848 mpm with more than 30 minutes separating the first 3 birds. All birds that made it home did a magnificent job. Congratulations to the winners and all of the other prize winners. This turned out to be a terrible race for the club and its members and for all members of the South Australian Homing Pigeon Association who flew.
The second race is from Hawker (approx 309 kms) on 26th June.
