Marla 2010

MARLA 2010 NEWSLETTER

The birds entered in the final race from Marla were released at 7.20 am along with 1751 SAHPA birds. A fine and sunny day with a light south east to south south east wind making sure that birds would not arrive until Sunday morning.

The race was won by Triangle (Don Grantham & Don Surman of Port Augusta) clocking at 9.50am. To cap off a great day, Don Grantham was also joint winner of the Broken Hill 10,000 Classic with the nest mate of the winner. Second went to Four Jokers (Len Jones & Partners) with Whitechurch Lofts (Matt & Russell) third. There were 15 birds home by 12.41pm and then a long dry spell without another bird for the rest of the day. Congratulations to the winners and all of the other prize winners.

Muirhead & Fuller easily won the Aggregate Points whilst the Bird of the Year was a tie between SA09 03026 BC Cock flown by Muirhead & Fuller and SA09 00717 BC Hen flown by Oakbank Stud 3. It was interesting to note that this year cocks won 4 of the 5 races and almost made it a clean sweep with 2 cocks landing with the winner of the other race. Whilst the season was a write off for many members, Andrew Muirhead and Faye Fuller had a fantastic year winning two races and not finishing worse than 6th in any of the 5 races.

Registrations and deposits for the 2011 season are still being accepted. The entry fee is $1,100 with the deposit being $300. Please forward your completed registration form and deposit to the Treasurer.

A reminder to all interstate members that birds should be sent to Adelaide Airport on either Friday the 3rd or Friday the 10th of December. Do not send birds on any other days. The club has accounts with Virgin Blue Freight and Australian air Express that give members a good saving. The club then sends you an account for the freight charges. Contact Brian or Penny for account details. Interstate members intending to send birds via Adelaide Airport are advised to pair their birds up on 6th October to ensure that they have birds ready for delivery (you need eggs between 12th and 16th October). The birds should be 30-35 days old when delivered. For local flyers and others delivering their birds to the loft the 8th October is the ideal date to pair up.

All birds are to be delivered to the loft by no later than Sunday 12th December 2010.  Please note that for interstate members sending birds via Adelaide Airport the second and last date is Friday 10th December 2010.

The Presentation BBQ and Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 12th December starting at 12 noon. For catering purposes please let Brian or Penny know if you will be attending.
