OCTOBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

The final race for the year from Marla saw 113 birds entered and released at 6.35 am Sunday along with 1808 SAHPA birds. A very windy Saturday with a few showers saw the birds held over until Sunday. The weather on Sunday was fine with a SSW to SW wind ensuring a hard long distance race.

Wagga 4 (John Clay and partners) were the clear winners timing in at 10:10am Monday to finish 21 minutes in front of John Hills in second place with Five Up (Paul Brown and partners) another minute back in third. Congratulations to the winning syndicate and the prizewinners. The velocities shown on the result sheet do not take into account the “hours of darkness”. The winning velocity was 934.8mpm.

The race saw a dramatic conclusion to both the Aggregate Points and the Bird of the Year with A & M Brown having MTD08 983 BC Hen the first bird home on the third day to grab a tie for both titles. The other joint winners were Wagga 4 in the Aggregate Points and SA08 01643 BC Hen flown by John Hills Bird of the Year.

Important reminders to our 2010 members, if you have not already paired up you need to do so in the next couple of weeks. The timing is critical; to have your birds ready for delivery to the loft in the first two weeks of December you need eggs between 12th and 26th October. The birds should be 30-35 days old when delivered.

Dates for breeding of birds as follows:

Delivered Mate Lay Hatch 30 Days
Fri 4 Dec 09 7 Oct 17 Oct 4 Nov 4 Dec
Sun 6 Dec 9 Oct 19 Oct 6 Nov 6 Dec

Sun 13 Dec 16 Oct 26 Oct 13 Nov 13 Dec

All birds are to be delivered to the loft by no later than 13th December 2009.

A reminder to all interstate members that birds can be sent to Adelaide Airport on Friday the 4th and Friday the 11th of December. The club has accounts with Virgin Blue Freight and Australian air Express that give members a good saving. The club then sends you an account for the freight charges. Contact Brian or Penny for account details.

The Presentation BBQ and Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 13th December starting at 12 noon. For catering purposes please let Brian or Penny know if you will be attending.
