SEPTEMBER 2011 NEWSLETTER

The 193 birds entered in the fourth race were released at 8.30 am from Glendambo along with 3541 SAHPA birds. The wind at the time of release was a strong north north easterly. The SAHPA changed the release point from Coober Pedy to Glendambo due to the temperature forecast for Coober Pedy being higher than allowed under its code of practice.

The race was won by Borzoi (Andrew Beattie and partners) from Western Australia, second was Country Class (Darrell Curnick and partners) with McIntosh & Sanders third. The birds were few and far apart early taking an hour to fill the 30 prizes. The leading times in the Association were recorded 30-50 kilometres south of our loft. The east in the wind pushed the birds over the gulf and they had to cross two large bodies of water before hitting land well south of the loft. Congratulations to the winner and all of the other prize winners. Ross & Vicki Brogan from Queensland were amongst those in attendance.

Country Class has taken the lead in the Aggregate Points whilst SA 24825 BBC (Oakbank Stud 1) has a big lead in the Bird of the Year.

Our final race is from Marla (approx 947 kms) on 24th September.

The following is some early information on the delivery of birds for the 2012 season to help you organise your breeding pairs so that birds are ready at the correct time. The birds must reach the loft between the 2nd and 11th December 2011 – no exceptions. Interstate members sending birds via Adelaide Airport must do so on either Friday the 2nd or Friday the 9th of December. Do not send birds on any other days.

For those sending birds via Adelaide Airport the 5th October (eggs 12th – 16th October) is the ideal date to pair up. For local flyers and others delivering their birds to the loft the 7th October (eggs 14th –18th October) is the ideal date. The birds should be 30-35 days old when delivered.
